How to boost your confidence in 24 hours

Laura Henshaw

With all of the pressure from society sometimes it can be difficult to remember to value ourselves instead of wishing things about ourselves were more like others.

I wanted to share the little things that I do to boost my self-confidence when I have had a bad day due to work pressure or just simply don't feel good about myself.

  1. Go and do a killer workout.

It may seem like the worst idea at the time (I know how unappealing compression gym gear is when you aren't feeling confident), but I can promise you a one-hour sweat session will do wonders. After exercising your body releases endorphins, which make you feel good. The tougher you make the workout the more accomplished and amazing you will feel when you're done.

  1. Spend time with your friends (only the ones that make you feel good.)

Friends are those who support you and would do anything for you no matter how much it puts them out. They should be the ones who make you feel good about yourself and boost your confidence. Sometimes in life we end up with some 'friends' who add more toxins into our life than good and so take some time to have a think if you have any of these in your life and consider moving away from them. A girls night in with Steph always makes me feel better.

  1. Unfollow anyone on social media who makes you feel bad about yourself.

We spend so much time on social media these days and if you spend an hour of your day scrolling through and looking at photos that affect your self-confidence it can become really toxic. Follow inspirational accounts that make you want to be the best version of YOU, no one else.

  1. Write down five things that you love about yourself.

This can be one of the hardest things in the world to do but trust me there are way more than five awesome things about you so don't get up until you have filled in 1-5 on your page. Once you have written them down stand in the mirror and repeat them to yourself. Sometimes we get so caught up in the things we dislike about ourselves we forget about all the good things and need reminding every now and then.

  1. List three things you are grateful for around you.

As cliché as it seems these lists do work! When we write things down it becomes more than just a thought in your mind and makes them harder to forget. Just as easy as it is to forget the things you love about yourself, you can forget how lucky you are. If you have a roof over your head, clothes to wear and food to eat you are richer than 75% of the world's population. It can be so easy to forget and get caught up in the greener grass on the other side of the fence but trust me, there is always going to be greener grass. This list should help remind you how special your life is, just the way it is.

  1. Cut out sugar and processed foods.

Sugar and processed foods are designed to make us feel good while we eat them and then once this feeling is over, all we want is more. This is what happens when you sit down with a block of Marvellous Creations Chocolate with the intention to have one square and end up eating the entire block. While at the time you feel good, this is not the case 20 minutes later. Cutting junk out for a day will leave you waking up feeling happier and more energised.
